George Mason University Wins Award for Its 'National Model' of Student Research!

We are thrilled to announce that Mason and OSCAR have won the Council on Undergraduate Research’s inaugural Campus-wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishment, the AURA Award. This recognizes our program as the top research university in the country offering opportunities for students to engage in research, scholarship, and creative activities.

The award letter stated: "George Mason University’s achievements as a leader in undergraduate research set your institution apart from other finalists for this award. You are to be commended for a high-level of engagement and buy-in from faculty, students and administration in the Students as Scholars program. Your success at developing undergraduate research experiences that are both accessible and visible to your community results in a program with significant institutional impact, and this in turn prepares your students for both graduate study and post-baccalaureate employment. The attention you have paid to developing program goals, assessable student learning outcomes, and rubrics for evaluating Students as Scholars is exceptional. The partnership between your director of Students as Scholars and the Office of Institutional Assessment has resulted in an assessment program that distinguishes you from other applicants. We believe that George Mason University provides a national model for other institutions to emulate and we are pleased to honor your institution with this award."

We appreciate to all of the students, faculty, and staff who have worked together over the past five (and more) years to make this a model program, and we look forward to expanding our opportunities in the future!
