Hello colleagues, and happy fall!
 
I hope the semester is going well for all of you. I wanted to forward the latest issue of the Graduate Student Life newsletter to you to highlight a few upcoming events and opportunities that are aimed at promoting graduate students’ academic success and well-being. We would appreciate your assistance with forwarding news of these opportunities to your students.
 
In particular, I’d like to point your attention to these opportunities, all listed in more detail below:
·        PROV 601 seminar, “Thriving in Graduate School: Fostering Graduate Student Success,” application deadline is Oct. 22. This seminar, offered in the spring, is aimed at master’s students and early-stage doctoral students.
·        Graduate student career workshop on Strengths-Based Interviewing on Oct. 23
·        Workshop on Managing Personal Relationships during Graduate School on Oct. 30
·        Graduate Student Life Write-In Day on Nov. 14; deadline to sign up is Nov. 2
·        Grad ReCon (aka Graduate Student Research Connections Day), a new joint effort between Mason Libraries and Graduate Student Life featuring a day of workshops aimed at promoting research, writing, and productivity, on Nov. 6

Introducing "Mason Grad Insider"!
Hear from your peers about resources, news, events, and current issues for graduate students at Mason and elsewhere by checking out "Mason Grad Insider," a new blog that aims at sharing resources, information, and stories about the Mason graduate student experience. Offered by Graduate Student Life and University Life Arlington, this weekly blog will cover a whole slew of topics, from balancing school, family and work life, to writing strategies, to tips on searching for jobs for after graduation. Registration Now Open for the Graduate Student Life Write-In Day!
Registration is now open for the Graduate Student Life Write-In Day on Saturday, November 14, 2015. The Write-In Day provides an atmosphere for group accountability and a space to write with other Mason graduate students who are also serious about getting writing done. Graduate Student Life will provide the space, coffee, meals, and snacks. 
 
You need to bring your computer, any other necessary materials, and most importantly, your personal commitment to working diligently and productively. Registration will close on Monday, November 2, at noon. Register now!
 
Thrive in Your Graduate Program with PROV 601
The Center for Teaching and Faculty Excellence offers PROV 601, "Thriving in Your Graduate Program: Fostering Graduate Student Success," every spring for beginning doctoral and master's students. This seminar helps students explore the opportunities and challenges of grad school and identify ways to prepare now for your career and professional goals. The application deadline is Oct. 22, 2015. Learn more and apply now!

Learn Your Strengths at the Graduate Student Career Workshop
Are you planning for a job or internship search and wondering how to highlight your strengths and past experiences in the interview? Join us at a workshop on strengths-based interviewing on Friday, Oct. 23, 10:00am-noon. This highly interactive workshop will teach you about your strengths, provide you opportunities to practice your interview skills, and engage with other graduate students who are in the job search process. 
 
Take the FREE StrengthsFinder assessment in advance and register for this workshop by Oct. 21. Please bring your Mason ID and your Signature Strengths Report with you to the workshop. Click here to complete the strengths assessment and register for the workshop.
 
Managing Personal Relationships During Grad School Workshop
Being a graduate student can be stressful in terms of adjusting to academic expectations, managing the work load, and balancing school with other work commitments. Grad school can also present challenges to one's personal relationships. How do you maintain strong relationships with partners, family, and friends while devoting time, focus, and energy to your graduate program? Build your productivity, research, and writing skills at Grad ReCon! Graduate Student Life and University Libraries have partnered with other offices to provide a day of workshops on topics essential to your success in grad school, including how to write a literature review, using Zotero, finding grant and fellowship opportunities, and more. A full schedule and details will be available soon at the Graduate Student Life website!
 
Call for Submissions and Position Openings
The Journal of Mason Graduate Research (JMGR) is accepting submissions for its third volume, which will be published in March 2016. Additionally, JMGR is looking for volunteer peer reviewers as well as copy editors. Click here for more information.
