Dear BIS students,

As you begin to finalize your course selections for this fall, we would like to make you aware of two undergraduate courses in Early Childhood Education that may complement your future professional goals. We recognize that many of you are interested in our program of studies and depending on your future professional goals, it may be possible for some of the courses to also satisfy future licensure coursework requirements you may pursue. This fall we are offering ECED 403: Inclusive Curriculum for Young Learners: Planning Instruction and Guidance and ECED 422: Developing Language, Literacy, and Communication of Diverse Young Learners.

 

As our undergraduate courses are not offered every semester we wanted to make sure you were aware of the upcoming semester’s schedule of classes (Fall 2015) so that you may take advantage of the courses in a timely manner. Below you will find a summary of the course objectives and the days and times they will be offered.

 

ECED 403: Inclusive Curriculum for Young Learners: Planning Instruction and Guidance - Monday, 7:20-10:00PM

This course explores principles of learning, curriculum development, and the relationship between assessment and instruction. We will examine the role of play and active exploration in learning, guiding children's behavior, and the role of families and culture in children's learning.

 

ECED 422: Developing Language, Literacy, and Communication of Diverse Young Learners - Thursday, 4:30-7:10PM

This course examines strategies to develop language, literacy, and communication in young children with varying abilities. Additionally, we will explore the importance of adult-child interaction and the effect of bilingualism, cultural diversity, cognitive ability, and language disorders.
