The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations offers several travel grants, a language acquisition grant, and a grant to promote scholarship in U.S. foreign relations history by women. Some grants are targeted to graduate students and others
to postdoctoral applicants.
General eligibility - applicants must be:
- Doctoral candidates working on dissertations dealing with some aspect of U.S. foreign relations history.
- Members of SHAFR.
The Stuart L. Bernath Dissertation Research Grant defrays expenses encountered in the writing of the dissertations. Award amount: up to $4,000.
The W. Stull Holt Dissertation Fellowship defrays the costs of travel necessary to conduct research on a significant dissertation project. Award amount: up to $4,000.
The Lawrence Gelfand – Armin Rappaport - Walter LaFeber Dissertation Fellowship defrays the costs of dissertation research travel. Award amount: up to $4,000.
Samuel Flagg Bemis Dissertation Research Grants defrays the costs of domestic or international travel necessary to conduct research on significant scholarly projects. Award amount: up to $2,000.
