From Dr. Fatah Kashanchi:
Students and Faculty,
We are working to establish a new journal club open to all labs on the Science and Technology Campus,
to be held on the third Wednesday of each month at 12:00 noon in the IABR #1004 Conference Room.
We are calling it a “focused” journal club because we’d like to “focus” on a particular topic for a period of time (i.e., 4-6 months) and have several people (PIs or senior lab members with experience) present on different areas included
under the topic. For example, we’ve selected exosomes and extracellular vesicles as the first focused topic. Fatah will present first on “Viruses and Exosomes” and in subsequent months we’ll have volunteers present on “Bacteria and Exosomes” and “Cancer and
Exosomes”. This particular topic will continue for the next 4-6 months, until all the major manuscripts/topics related to exosomes are covered. Each presentation will be for ~45 minutes and cover more than 1 paper (potentially 2-3 high impact articles in
that particular field).
Suggestions for other focused topics are welcome. Some current ideas for future topics (after the exosomes) are:
·
Gene editing/CRISPR-Cas systems
·
Autophagy
·
Metabolomics
·
Microbiomes
