I just used Google code's "export to github" and it worked flawlessly. The project, which Ernesto and I did for a class project several years ago, is now up and ready to checkout via SVN. The commit history is even still intact, including commit comments. Seems like a perfect solution to me.

Louis,

I agree with your saying on BW and color TV, however I experienced that people whose main business is not development, do not always like the transition to color tv and try to emulate what they know from svn on git :)

Still, if the decision goes for in-housing hosting I would advise
Redmine. It might take some work to install, but once running it is
pretty light on maintenance.

Full ack. Hope Sean's inhouse IT gets this done despite the outages he mentioned :) I got some experience in servers, svn and general DevOps setups, so I can offer my help as well.
