Summer 2015

Arabic Language Study in Amman led by Dr. Nizar Al Seoudi

Dates: May 28 - June 27, 2015
Application Deadline: March 20, 2015
Academic Director: Dr. Nizar Al Seoudi

Welcome to Amman, Jordan, where tradition meets modernity in the Middle East!

During this intensive language program, classes meet for several hours a day, are taught by local faculty at MALIC, and explore a mix of modern spoken Arabic and the Jordanian dialect. Check out 99 fun things to do while in Jordan.

The distinct advantage to studying Arabic in Jordan on this program as opposed to a campus in the States is the language socialization component, where students will have an opportunity to put directly into practice in Amman what they have learned in the classroom. This could include visiting a local cafe, negotiating (in Arabic) for a thoub (traditional dress) at a local market, or hanging out with Jordanian students.

Three Arabic language classes are offered for 6 semester credits in Amman, Jordan. Based on previous language studies, students will be placed in either ARABIC 210 Intermediate Arabic, ARABIC 250 Gateway to Advanced Arabic, or Advanced ARABIC 330/331. Again, the most important outcome of this course is that students intensively study the Arabic language, granting them access to authentic Arabic culture and tradition.
