   My name is Joe Renaud. I am the curator for the TEDx event hosted at Mason every year: TEDxGeorgeMasonU. We are announcing this year's event, set to take place on Saturday April 12th 2014. Tickets are currently on-sale, but going fast! I was hoping that you could forward the below information flyer to your department's faculty, staff, and/or students. This event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, OSCAR Students as Scholars, the STEM Accelerator, Center for the Arts, Hylton Performing Arts Center and receives in-kind support from numerous other departments on campus.

TEDxGeorgeMasonU Presents the 3rd Annual TEDx event at George Mason University

Tickets on sale now!

The TEDxGeorgeMasonU Team is excited to announce this year’s TEDx event! This year will feature a variety of talks ranging in topics from theater to . The theme is Laying the Breadcrumbs, this year’s speakers have devoted their lives in one way or another to create pathways which may not otherwise be there. This paths help kids find their voice, undergraduates participate in world-class research, introduce women to science, and many more.

Daniel N. Cox – Professor of Systems Biology, Graduate Program Director, School of Systems Biology, Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study.

Mary Lechter – Professor of Theater, Founder of Acting for Young People

Karyn E. Mallet – Assistant Director of the Mason English Language Institute

Linda Apple Monson – Professor of Music, Director of Keyboard Studies

Mamta Patel Nagaraja* – Women@NASA Outreach Manager, Astronaut Trainer

Michael (Doc Nix) Nickens – Professor of Music, Green Machine Director

Nathalia Peixoto - Professor of Bioengineering, Director of the Neural Engineering Lab

Padhu Seshaiyer – Professor of Mathematics, Director of the STEM Accelerator

Amie Woods* - Emergency Physician at INOVA Fairfax Hospital

TEDxGeorgeMasonU has showcased Mason Professors on the international TED stage since 2012. Presenters give short, 18 minute, TED-style talks about their research, creative ideas, and stories. These events hope to spread awareness of the great work happening at George Mason University, as well as bring in the community and allow students & faculty to interact with their local area’s movers & shakers. Speakers from the local community will be featured for the first time at this year’s event. Further event information will be posted on www.TEDxGeorgeMasonU.com as the event approaches.

Tickets for TEDxGeorgeMasonU 2014 are on sale now. Ticket prices are $20 for Adults, $15 for Students. A sandwich lunch is included in the ticket price. The student discount is available to all high school and college students with a valid ID, one discount per ID*. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Hylton Performing Arts Center (hyltoncenter.org, Manassas VA) or the Center for the Arts (cfa.gmu.edu, Fairfax VA). The event will be hosted on April 12th 2014 from 10:15am to 4:00pm. The venue will be the 250 seat Gregory Family Theater at the Hylton Performing Arts Center: 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas, VA 20110. The event will be broken up by a catered lunch, as well as several breaks. Audience members may come and go during these breaks. Audience members are encouraged to engage in discussions during the breaks.
