VSE faculty:

Attached is a call for proposals to develop a 1-hour course on the responsible conduct of research.  Here are some comments from the attachment:
The George Mason University Office of Research Integrity & Assurance is developing a faculty-led course on the responsible conduct of research (RCR) and is seeking faculty proposals for course development during summer 2014.  The responsible conduct of research series will be offered during fall semester 2014.  The office is offering a $500 stipend for development of each one-hour interactive course with the additional expectation that selected faculty will attend one planning meeting in May 2014 and teach the one hour course fall semester 2014 during the RCR series.

It is anticipated that the series will have 30 attendees, primarily graduate students but also post-doctoral scholars and undergraduate students.  Proposals should fit within one or more of the following categories of responsible conduct of research:

  1. conflict of interest – personal, professional, and financial;
  2. policies regarding human subjects, live vertebrate animal subjects in research, and safe laboratory practices;
  3. mentor/mentee responsibilities and relationships;
  4. collaborative research including collaborations with industry;
  5. peer review;
  6. data acquisition and laboratory tools; management, sharing and ownership;
  7. research misconduct and policies for handling misconduct;
  8. responsible authorship and publication;
  9. the scientist as a responsible member of society, contemporary ethical issues in research, and the environmental and societal impacts of scientific research.
... To apply, complete the attached brief proposal document and submit to Donna Sherrard at [log in to unmask] no later than April 4, 2014 at 5pm.
