Dear colleagues in Mason’s Asia Interest Group,

We are writing to invite you and your students to apply for the Global Problem-Solving Skills Workshop, led by the Global Knowledge Initiative (GKI), a highly-regarded non-profit international development organization, and co-hosted by OSCAR and the Office of Global & International Strategies (with additional support from University Life). Please forward this announcements to your students and other faculty!

This event will be held at Mason’s Fairfax campus on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Participation is free; lunch, snacks, and workshop materials will be provided.

The workshop will offer participants case studies, tools and techniques that originate from human centered design, innovation systems, and international development. Hands-on interactive activities will arm students with tools that GKI uses to solve challenges in the developing world. We hope that students will use these tools to conduct research or create projects that have global relevance. Faculty are invited as participant observers, experiencing these tools firsthand so that you can use them in your own classrooms and research endeavors.

There are a limited number of spaces available for students and faculty, so apply as soon as possible. Applications are due Sunday, March 23rd, and applicants will be notified of their status by Monday, March 31st.  Application and additional information are available at

Please feel free to reply to us with any questions.
