This program follows the narrative arc of the war, beginning in Sarajevo, the site of the assassination of the Austrian pretender to the Habsburg throne, Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, to Versailles

The program begins in Vienna and then proceeds to Berlin<http://globaled.gmu.edu/programs/facultyled/summerstudy/index.html>. In each city, students will visit sites associated with the war: From the capitals of the Central Powers, students will travel to the epicenter of the conflict, Belgium and northern France where four years of trench warfare on the Western Front epitomized the futility of industrialized killing.
