Dear BIS Students, Welcome to Fall 2013! The BIS Welcome Week Reception is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3rd from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the Johnson Center Third Floor Conference Room A. This is a shared event with the Bachelor of Applied Science program. This reception will provide an opportunity to meet other BIS students at different levels of degree completion, meet BIS faculty, check-in with BIS advising, and enjoy some tasty treats at the same time! All BIS students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. If you have a BIS class taking place on or about this time period, your instructors have already made arrangements in your class schedule to allow for your attendance. The BIS 491 Senior Capstone Presentations will take place on December 12th from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. The location will be decided soon. Please save the date on your calendars for this future event. All BIS students, faculty, faculty mentors and staff are invited to attend. A list of presentations will be published with the event on the BIS website as soon as it has been configured (look for it in late November to early December). The Winter 2013 Commencement (Graduation Ceremony) will take place on December 19th. Please visit http://www.gmu.edu/depts/ur/events/univevents.html further along in the semester for details. The Commencement Fair (cap and gown buying dates) for the Fall will take place on November 4,5,6th. As you may know, 'walking' for graduation is highly recommended by me, because I did not walk and really regret it! I hope you will consider attending Commencement and taking that moment in the spotlight to honor your amazing accomplishments! If you are planning to graduate in December, you must apply to graduate via the Registrar's Office, http://registrar.gmu.edu/students/graduation/, and your deadline to submit your application is September 30, 2013, when the online application will become inactive. Your degree will be conferred (official graduation date) on December 6th and diplomas will be mailed out approximately early February. Please visit the links provided and inform yourself on any of the processes that apply to you this semester. And please never hesitate to contact BIS for more information when you need it.
