Financial trading is increasingly dominated by algorithms that compete for profit. Join us in the quest to evolve reliably profitable trading algorithms to fill the niches of the electronic marketplace. We plan to expose trading algorithms to the rigours of accelerated evolution that optimize their parameters using genetic algorithms and evolve entirely new algorithms using genetic programming. We in the Computer Science department at UCL combine a unique set of skills and expertise that position us to accomplish this task. We bring together the UK PhD Centre in Financial Computing and CREST. The Financial Computing Centre is a collaboration of University College London (UCL), the London School of Economics (LSE), the London Business School (LBS) and twenty leading financial institutions; please visitwww.financialcomputing.org to learn more. CREST builds on the three foundations of program dependence, information theory and optimisation to analyse, understand, and improve software. CREST hosts the monthly CREST Open Workshop Programme (the COWs); please visithttp://crest.cs.ucl.ac.uk/ to learn more. Starting in September 2013, successful candidates will undertake a one-year MRes (Masters of Research) with the Financial Computing Centre in their first year. The MRes comprises three Masters-level modules (selected from any suitable courses provided by UCL, LSE or LBS) plus a year-long research project. In years 2–4, the student will continue their PhD in SSE group. We are happy to consider candidates from any scientific discipline. However, the successful candidate should demonstrate: 1. A strong academic background; 2. Strong quantitative and programming skills; 3. The ability to learn advanced maths, programming, and statistics. Please direct any enquiries or applications to Prof. Mark Harman [log in to unmask] or Dr. Earl Barr [log in to unmask] ******************************************************************************** Sender: "Evert Haasdijk" <[log in to unmask] > Subject: CfP Evolutionary Intelligence Journal - Special Issue On Evolutionary Robotics ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EVOLUTIONARY INTELLIGENCE - SPECIAL ISSUE ON EVOLUTIONARY ROBOTICS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Call for Papers Evolutionary Robotics researches the application of evolutionary computation techniques to automatically design the controllers and/or morphology of autonomous robots, real or simulated. This is by nature a multi-faceted field that combines approaches from other fields such as neuro-evolution, evolutionary design, artificial life, robotics, et cetera. In spring 2014, Evolutionary Intelligence will publish a special issue on Evolutionary Robotics. We welcome submissions concerning state-of-the-art research in the area of evolutionary robotics. Topics include but are not limited to: - Evolution for single, collective and modular robotics; - Evolution of robot morphology; - Evolution of (neural) robot controllers; - Co-evolution of hardware/morphology and controller; - Evolutionary robotics in artificial life; - Open-ended evolution in robotics; - Evolution of collective behaviour; - Evolutionary self-assembly and self-replication; - Evolution, development and learning; - Competitive co-evolution. Details of the journal can be found online: http://www.springer.com/engineering/journal/12065 The deadline for submissions: Oct 15, 2013 Contact ------- If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact one of the special issue guest editors: Nicolas Bredeche [log in to unmask] Gusz Eiben [log in to unmask] Evert Haasdijk [log in to unmask] Stefano Nolfi [log in to unmask] Or check the Special Issue website at: http://www.few.vu.nl/~ehaasdi/evinevorob ******************************************************************************** Sender: laetitia jourdan <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Artificial Evolution 2013 (Bordeaux-France) - Submission: deadline extended June 12th 2013 =================================================================== === Artificial Evolution 2013 (EA-2013) === === EA-2013 Paper Submission Open === === SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Extended June 12th 2013 === =================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS Artificial Evolution 2013 (EA-2013) The 11th Biennial International Conference on Artificial Evolution INRIA BORDEAUX SUD-OUEST Centre Bordeaux, France, 21-23 October 21-23th, 2013 Website: http://ea2013.inria.fr Submission: http://myreview.csregistry.org/ea2013/ General Chair: Pierrick Legrand <[log in to unmask]> =================================================================== Because several authors asked for yet another delay, but also in order to increase the quality of published papers by selecting from a larger pool of submissions, we will accept late paper submissions until June 12, 2013.
