Dr. Avinash Srinivasan from the Department of Computer Science initiated this partnership and he worked very closely with Office of Sponsored Programs in finalizing the collaboration. This Agreement offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in their individual academic area of study. It provides an environment to find mentors who, based on experiences and professional connections, will assist students in learning about the field of cyber crime. The DC3 internship program enables students to conduct cooperative research, gain hands-on experience, and share lessons to assist in the learning process, and find solutions to challenges, while gaining important knowledge from expert practitioners. Through this Partnership Agreement, DC3 encourages the education of graduate and undergraduate students and Mason faculty by providing a mechanism under which selected students and faculty can participate in projects of interest to DC3 and Mason. These projects benefit interns and faculty and may provide special knowledge, job experience, certifications and academic credit. Interns and faculty also benefit from working in unique facilities, working with unique equipment and interacting with DC3 staff. This partnership is tailored toward the identification and development of new cyber talent, and accelerates skills and career path development for the new DoD workforce. Mason students from various disciplines and all campuses can participate in this internship program and have the opportunity of working on bleeding edge research and development at DC3 facility. For more information please contact the Program Manager. *Kathy Laskey Receives Funding from MITRE Corp.* Kathy Laskey of the C4I Center and the Systems Engineering & Operations Research Department received $12K from MITRE Corporation for her project "Tax Ecosystem Study". ** *Sam Malek Receives CAREER Award from NSF* Sam Malek of the Computer Science Department received $451K as a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation for his project "CAREER: A Mining-Based Approach for Consistent and Timely Adaptation of Component-Based Software". -- =============================================================== Stephen G.
