Hello, everyone.
Please find attached a message from Prof. Matt Karush, who is chairing this year's "U.S. and the World" faculty search committee. The department is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in this field. The finalists' c.v.'s are attached.
There are all sorts of reasons for Ph.D. students to pay close attention to faculty searches. You would certainly benefit from hearing the candidates' research presentations (and the ensuing Q and A), not least because you will be doing something similar yourself in the near future.
More important, you should certainly attend the sessions that the search committee has scheduled specifically for doctoral students to meet with the finalists--both for your own experience and to represent Mason and its doctoral program to these prospective new members of the faculty. Note that two of three seesions have been scheduled at times that should be convenient for students enrolled in colloquium and/or Clio II.
If you have questions, contact either Matt Karush or me.
Best,
Cindy
