Dear Colleagues,

 
We are pleased to announce the next annual 3-week short course in Systems Biology being held at the University of California Irvine between January 7th-25th, 2013.
 


The course emphasis is on the systems biology of morphogenesis and spatial dynamics.  Course instruction is provided by >20 faculty associated with the Center for Complex Biological Systems (CCBS), the Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (LFD) and the Institute for Genomics & Bioinformatics (IGB) at UC Irvine, as well as a number of invited outside experts.

 

The format consists of didactic lectures covering central topics in systems biology, extensive laboratory work on biological projects to develop practical skills, and in depth computational analyses/modeling of results. Consequently, the course should be attractive to graduate students, postdocs, faculty and industry researchers from a broad range of scientific disciplines with strong interests towards long term commitments to Systems Biology research but with little or no formal prior training. To facilitate entry into this field, we also offer 1 week optional Preparatory Workshops either in foundational biological paradigms or relevant computational/mathematical tools tailored to the individual applicant's background and needs. The subsequent Systems Biology Core Course (2 weeks) follows with a high-level exploration of biological problems and questions from a systems biology perspective. Course participants are also encouraged to attend the 1-day Southern California Systems Biology (SoCal SysBio) conference that follows directly afterwards (Sat, Jan 26, 2013).

Space is limited; early registration deadline - December 7th 2012. Tuition fellowships and/or travel awards are available - please inquire for eligibility.
