PLEASE READ, THIS IS AWESOME!

I'm pleased to announce that Esther Jackson is a Marshall Scholarship finalist! This is the most prestigious scholarship for an undergraduate. You may know Esther--she is an African American math major. She works with Wendi Manuel Scott to tutor students in her Saturday schools. She is an outstanding young lady.

Esther Jackson was selected as a 2013 Marshall Scholarship finalist. The Marshall Scholarship is the nation's most prestigious public exchange program. The Scholarship selects only 40 students each year to pursue graduate study in the United Kingdom. Notable former Marshall Scholars include Supreme Court Justice Stephen Bryer and Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Thomas Friedman.

Marshall Scholars are selected based on academic merit, leadership potential, and the ability to make a positive contribution to society. Esther is a math major with a minor in the College of Science with a music minor. She is proposing to study financial modeling at the University of Glasgow in Scotland and has been conducting research under the direction of Dr. Tim Sauer. In addition, she has worked with Dr. Padhu Seshaiyer and Dr. Wendi Manuel Scott to tutor local students in math, inspiring them to persist in the subject.

Esther will be interviewed at the British Embassy in Washington, DC on November 9th and 10th. Marshall Scholars will be announced shortly after the interviews. Please join the Office of Fellowships in congratulating Esther on this wonderful accomplishment!

Thank you,
