The Belize Ridges to Reef Program
offers students a once-in-a-lifetime to live on Belize’s most
pristine offshore
cayes; have access to an archaeological cave system; explore the
Sibun river;
and discover special places where few travelers have gone, such
as the Actun
Tunichil Muknal, a sacred Mayan sacrificial site, and the
infamous Blue Hole. Students
will have the opportunity to snorkel
the protected reefs within the Blue Hole and those surrounding
Half Moon Caye
National Monument; go sea kayaking and snorkeling around the
offshore caye; and
engage in community service projects.
Bottlenose dolphin, manatee, and sea turtle sightings are
always a
possibility, so expect the unexpected!

- ITALY: Underneath Rome: An
Introduction to Geo-Archaeology
Many have visited the famous Trevi
Fountain in Rome, but how many people do you know who have
explored Rome, below
the Trevi Fountain? You could have this very opportunity if you
participate in
this study abroad program, which will literally take you underneath
the
streets and buildings of Rome! The goal for this program is to
develop an
appreciation of how the interplay of the territory and culture
brought life to
Rome. What is seen on the surface of the city is not even half
of the rich
historical and cultural heritage of Rome: underneath her very
varied
topography, the city unfolds her past. This interdisciplinary
course uses
geoarcheology as a gateway to the support of archeological,
historical, and
anthropological studies of the city and her development.

- KENYA: Ecology and Conservation
Join us for an engaging exploration
of Kenya's vast and diverse ecosystems. This course will put you
in close
proximity to some incredible and charismatic wildlife.
Participants will have
an incredible experience viewing wildlife, while learning about
current
challenges facing terrestrial megafauna that include the classic
big five
(lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhino). We will
accomplish this
by visiting multiple national parks, meeting key conservation
biologists, and
discussing a wide range of current wildlife management issues.
At both the
applied and academic level, topics will include the
conservation, biology, and
behavior of species; landscapes and the conservation of
protected and
non-protected areas; human-wildlife conflicts; and the
complexities of
community-level interactions.
