Dear Matt - I need your help to get this announcement out to doctoral
program directors in CHSS. The Fulbright-Hays is one of the premier
awards for international doctoral research. This past year, due to
appropriations and funding issues, no competition was run. Now,
suddenly, they have announced that they will be accepting applications
on a very foreshortened timeline. I am trying to get the word out as
quickly as possible to prospective applicants. The information is

*_Fulbright-Hays 2012 Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships_*
*The Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship Program provides opportunities to
doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation research abroad
for 6-12 months working on topics/projects in modern foreign languages
and area studies. *

The program is designed to contribute to the development and improvement
of the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the United
States.
This program is open to *_U.S. Citizens AND permanent residents_* in any
field of study who will be at the research stage of the doctoral
dissertation (e.g. "advanced to candidacy" -- passed comprehensive exams
and doctoral dissertation proposal formally approved) by the inception
of the grant.
Eligible research projects must focus on one or more of the following
geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific
Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and
Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its
territories).Projects focusing on Western Europe are NOT eligible.
Within these parameters, two types of proposal will be given preference:
·Research projects that focus on any of the 78 languages selected from
the U.S. Department of Education's list of Less Commonly Taught
Languages (for the complete list

·Research projects using advanced language proficiency in one of the
aforementioned languages and are in the fields of economics,

Candidates for the 2012 DDRA must apply for this award via the Office of
Graduate Fellowships.*The deadline for submission of all application
documents is June 7, 2012. The application must be accessed via the Dept

<p class="MsoNormal"><b style=""><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The
Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship Program provides opportunities
to doctoral candidates to engage in full-time dissertation
research abroad for 6-12 months working on topics/projects in
modern foreign languages and area studies. <o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b style=""><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p> </o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The program
is designed to contribute to the development and improvement of
the study of modern foreign languages and area studies in the
United States.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">This
program is open to <b style=""><u>U.S. Citizens AND permanent
residents</u></b> in any field of study who will be at the
research stage of the doctoral dissertation (e.g. “advanced to
candidacy” – passed comprehensive exams and doctoral
dissertation proposal formally approved) by the inception of the
grant. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Eligible
research projects must focus on one or more of the following
geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the
Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern
Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the
United States and its territories).<span style=""> </span>Projects
focusing on Western Europe are NOT eligible.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

these parameters, two types of proposal will be given
