Introduction to Classical Music in ASSISI This summer
experience La Dolce Vita (the sweet life) with Mason music
professor Mark Bergman at the Assisi Music festival. Feast
your eyes on Giotto de Bondone’s world-famous frescos.
Walk in the footsteps of the ancient Umbri and Saint Francis.
Enjoy gelato on the Piazza del Comune in the shadows of
the glorious Temple of Minerva. Free admission to all festival
events and unprecedented access to the performers.

Italian Language Study in FLORENCE AND ELBA Walk like a Medici in La Bella Toscana with Modern and
Classical Languages professor Abigail Pare for four or six
weeks while learning (or improving) your Italian language.
Open to Italian language beginners, you'll see the art of
Michelangelo Buonarotti and Pietro Cimabue, and exper-
ience the architecture of Filippo Brunelleschi and Giotto di
Bondone while enjoying the “historical cafés” (i caffe storici)
in which the city’s artists and writers used to gather.
Environmental Restoration and Sustainable Development in SENEGAL Led by professor Kwame Boakye-Agyei from Mason’s Environmental Science
and Public Policy department, this program’s participants will engage in grass-
roots community development in Senegal’s Ecovillage system by integrating
principals of sustainability with cultural, economical, social, and environmental
planning. Together, the student and faculty on this program create a learning
community where remarkable educational environments facilitate real transform-
ative intellectual and personal development.

Marine Mammal and Penguin Biology in ANTARCTICA BONUS: spend New Year's Eve in Ushuaia, Argentina,
preparing for the sixteen day voyage to Antarctica. Led by
Associate Professor Dr. Chris Parsons, after crossing the
Drake Passage students will spend their days landing in
different Antarctic environments in the South Shetland
Islands, along the western Antarctic Peninsula, and
Weddell Sea and in zodiac boats cavorting with whales!
