National Telework Week
March 5-9 is National Telework Week and both Mason and the Commonwealth are participating. We encourage you to invite your faculty and staff to help Mason celebrate in two ways. If someone already has a telework agreement in place, please ask them to head out to the Telework Exchange's site to submit their pledge to telework that week. And if your faculty and staff supervise Mason administrative/professional faculty, classified staff or non-student wage employees, it's a great time to start that conversation with your staff about using flexible work options -- including telework -- to enhance both work/life choices and strategic business choices. To support National Telework Week, the university will be holding a Mini-Flex opportunity. With approval, employees may telework up to two days during National Telework Week. Important details, including how to register, are available on the Work/Life Flexible Work page.
Reminder: If you already have a flexible work agreement, please make sure it's kept up-to-date. Agreements can run no longer than 15 months before renewing -- a 3 month trial period plus a 12 month agreement.
Mason Horizons/Footsteps Mentoring Program Deadline Approaching
Mason Mentoring Programs: Deadline April 30. We invite you to learn more about the Mason Horizon and Footsteps Program, a professional development opportunity for you. The observership programs are designed to help you gain perspective on your future career path by providing you with an opportunity to shadow a senior administrator, usually one day per month, for three to six months. Learn more at Mason Horizons for tenured faculty and Mason Footsteps for administrative/professional faculty and classified staff.
EPAF Refresher now available online
Just a friendly reminder that EPAF submitters are required to complete an EPAF refresher training each year. Submitters are invited to log in to myMason HR and click on myLearning to access our newly updated online refresher. Of course, submitters are also welcome to attend instructor-led training. Feel free to contact us anytime at [log in to unmask] with questions or concerns.
Zimride Commuter Challenge Underway: A Prize Opportunity From Our Colleagues in Parking & Transportation
Zimride, a casual ridesharing network, and Mason are hosting the Zimride Commuter Challenge (2/1 – 4/30). Join the challenge and become part of Mason’s effort to reduce its commute-related carbon footprint. Try using a green mode of transportation like carpooling or bicycling once or twice weekly to get to work. To help you take the plunge, we’re giving away amazing prizes worth up to $250 each (and Parking & Transportation is covering the tax!).
Sign up for Zimride with your Mason email at http://zimride.gmu.edu. Then, access the “commute calendar” under your profile picture and tell us how you get to campus! Each logged trip counts for one point. The more points you have, the better your chance of winning a prize!
Visit http://transportation.gmu.edu/challenge for more info and a list of PRIZES.
If you have questions, please contact Marina at [log in to unmask] or call 703.993.2828.
Happy Commuting!
Victims' Rights Run/Walk
As you know, the 16th Annual Victims' Rights Run/Walk is scheduled for Friday, April 27th. HR & Payroll encourages supervisors to permit their staff to participate if they wish. No leave needs to be taken; it can be considered work time.
