Subject: Instant HR/Payroll: OIPS Sponsors a Special Presentation on International Hiring and a Volunteer Available

International Hiring

From our colleagues in the Office of International Programs and Services....
The rules and processes have changed recently for hiring new international faculty and researchers.  OIPS would like to invite you to a special presentation for Mason hiring managers with Debra Dowd from LeClair Ryan Law Firm on Wednesday, February 15 from 3:00-3:30 pm in SUB 1, Room 3B.  Debra Dowd will speak about updates to the Permanent Residency Process for international faculty and researchers and answer any questions you may have.

A RSVP is not required to attend, but if possible, please RSVP to Noelle Deola [log in to unmask]. OIPS hopes to see you there!

They also welcome you to attend a general workshop on non-immigrant and immigrant work visas presented by Debra Dowd later that afternoon at 4 pm.

For any questions about either event, please email Noelle Deola, [log in to unmask].

Volunteer Available
We received a bio from someone who is interested in volunteering at Mason, perhaps in the areas of the Middle East, Art, or Communications/Public Affairs.  He lives across the street from the Fairfax campus and is a former VP of Government Relations and Public Affairs. If you would be interested in receiving his background information please email [log in to unmask] and we'll send you a copy.

Reminder: Some Additional Guidance on Volunteers (from the Instant HR/Payroll of 5/20/09)
While there is no formal volunteer program at Mason, there are times when you might bring a volunteer into your department.  This could be a student, a former employee, or someone from the community.  Should you decide to have a volunteer in your department, please keep the following things in mind....

Please have your volunteer ....
1.  Complete a Volunteer Memorandum of Understanding, send the completed and signed form to Risk Management, MSN 6D6 and keep a copy for your records.
2.  Complete and sign a copy of the Commonwealth's Alcohol & Drug Policy.  Keep this form in your records.
3.  Review the Data Stewardship Policy.
4.  Complete and sign a confidentiality statement if it is applicable to your department.

Please remember that your volunteers should be under direct supervision at all times.
