Title: Image Analysis for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) is a 100% lethal illness of which
there is no current cure, treatment, or even relief. Analysis of CAT
scan imagery will allow physicians to obtain a cohesive measure of the
attributes inherent in IPF patients and to be able to measure the
progression of the illness. Image features indicative of IPF do not
have any specific shape, size, location, or texture. Thus,
classification of regions-of-interest requires a higher order
information processing. The approach presented today relies of models
of the mammalian visual cortex to extract higher order information for
the purposes of classification. The result is a system that can
accurately measure fibrotic volumes within a patient's scan.
