University Libraries is offering a series of Graduate Research Workshops on
Friday, November 11. 
 
These are the workshops that are offered that day:
 
9:00 a.m: Zotero 101
Fairfax Campus, Fenwick Library Instruction Room A-214
Zotero is a Firefox browser based utility that makes capturing bibliographic
content from around the Web a snap! Learn how to install and manipulate your
own Zotero library. (This session and the one at 2:30 are the same.)
 
10:30 a.m.: Thesis & Dissertation Workshop
Fairfax Campus, Fenwick Library Instruction Room A-214
Overview of the Thesis & Dissertation process with question/answer time with
the University Dissertation and Thesis Coordinator. Presented by University
Dissertation & Thesis Coordinator, Sally Evans. (This session and the one at
1:00 p.m. are the same.)
 
11:00 a.m: Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
Fairfax Campus, Fenwick Library Data Services Lab, Room C-103 
Learn some of the basic concepts of GIS (Geographic Information Systems),
finding geospatial data, and be familiar with some of the basic functions of
ArcGIS 10.0 to create your own thematic maps: adding data, creating new
layers, joining tables, calculating attribute values, and classifying
features by quantity, labeling data, and laying out data.
 
11:30 a.m.: Mobile Apps for Library Research
Fairfax Campus, Fenwick Library Instruction Room A-214
Got an Android, iPhone, Blackberry or other mobile device? We've got free
apps for it! Discover mobile-ready research content available through the
Libraries. This session covers tips for selected library research database
apps and mobile sites for graduate student researchers.
