Special Collections & Archives has an opening for an Archival Assistant to
assist SC&A staff in describing and caring for its collections and providing
services to its patrons. We are looking for responsible, engaged,
detail-oriented graduate students with an interest in working with
historical collections.
Archival Assistant, 15-20 hours / week ($10.00/hr) will assist with
processing and describing historical manuscript* *collections. The
assistant will also create and update finding aids using Encoded Archival
Description (EAD). Student with assist with paging and shelving collections,
monitoring the reading room, and with other projects as assigned. Ability to
lift boxes weighing up to 35 lbs., climb ladders, and reach shelves
required. Basic computer skills and strong communication skills needed; work
experience in an archival setting, mark-up languages, and Microsoft Access
are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who can work through
the 2011-2012 academic year.
Work hours must fall between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday - Friday.
