Subject: Help for Alabama!

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
Many of you know Marisa Allison, who taught for Women and Gender Studies last semester and is a PhD student in sociology and WGST certificate student. She will be traveling to Alabama soon, taking much-needed supplies with her. Although all of her loved ones are accounted for in the aftermath of the tornadoes, she is responding to the tremendous need of her home state. At this point, the victims of this tragedy need the very basics.
The Women and Gender Studies Center, JC 240K, will serve as a drop-off spot for donated items. Donations being accepted at this location include diapers, slightly used and new clothing for all ages, shoes, towels, blankets, boxes,  and tape (to package it all up). Toiletries are in great demand such as -- tampons, sanitary pads, adult diapers, toilet paper, razors, soap, tooth paste, toothbrushes, deodorant, sunscreen, baby wipes, baby powder, and lotion.
The estimated 211 tornadoes that struck the southeastern United States left a path of complete destruction. In Alabama alone there is more than 1,000 miles of total devastation. The death toll from the tornadoes has reached 340, making the twisters the second most deadly in US history. The death toll continues to rise.
Marisa says she will pick up the first set of donations Monday at 4 to put on a trailer going down Tuesday. For those who live in Arlington, you can also drop off donations at Marisa Allison’s house. Email her at Marisa C Allison <[log in to unmask]> for her address. She expressed her thanks to all our Women and Gender Studies family for the help!
Hope to see many of you in the Center tomorrow with items to share with people in Alabama.
All the best,
Suzanne
