Its a bit strange because if you're running carbon you shouldn't be getting the cocoa trying to load -- unless there is something (like a native plugin) that is wanting to use it. But they definitely don't mix, just as the 32-bit and 64 bit libs don't mix. Have you tried Cocoa build? There was a big issue a while back for Cocoa SWT team about wether to support running Cocoa under 32-bit JVMs (i.e. on Mac anything before Snow Leopard). Basically, if you're 

So I'd say if you're up for it, try the Cocoa 32-bit. I'm not going to suggest you upgrade to Snow Leopard, but it's worked great for me -- in fact I'm running in 64-bit mode.
