The following is an announcement on a new study abroad scholarship for 
students majoring or minoring in Spanish provided through MCL. Please 
let students pursuing or interested in pursuing study abroad in Spanish 
know about this as soon as possible, and forward to other program 
officers if necessary. (A flyer is currently being worked out by our 
office in consultation with Julie Christensen, and will be forthcoming.)

*ANNOUNCING A NEW STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP
FOR STUDENTS MAJORING OR MINORING IN SPANISH! *
*
The Spanish Program in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages 
at George Mason University is pleased to announce a new study abroad 
scholarship provided by Alumna Professor of Spanish Martha Paley 
Francescato. The scholarship is for $1000 and will be awarded yearly to 
**one** student of Spanish for study abroad in a Spanish-speaking 
country. /All applicants must be currently pursuing a major or minor 
degree in Spanish at George Mason/. Preference will be given to 
applicants who have not previously studied abroad. The scholarship is 
not renewable.*

*Applicants must submit an essay by *April 15, 2009* to the Department 
of Modern and Classical Languages stating why they need additional funds 
for a study abroad and detailing their commitment to the Spanish 
program. Essays should be sent to the Department of Modern and Classical 
Languages by e-mail attachment ([log in to unmask] 
<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) with the subject line "Martha P. Francescato 
Scholarship Application," or brought personally to the departmental main 
office in 233 Thompson Hall (also addressed to "Martha P. Francescato 
Scholarship Application”).*

* Awards will be announced at the yearly departmental celebration of 
students in May.
