Except where indicated, Hangzhou International School is now recruiting for
the 08-09 school year.
Hangzhou International School is a sister school to Shanghai Community
International School, and is a not-for-profit, co-educational day school for
students from pre-school through Grade 12. Between the 2 schools there are over
1600 students - over 240 of these are at Hangzhou - from over 45 different
countries. Our teaching staff comes from the United States, Australia and New
Zealand, the U.K. and Europe, and South Africa. There are Chinese nationals
teaching Mandarin and supporting the program in many other areas. HIS is
accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
HIS' purpose built campus includes state-of-the art facilities such as a
theatre, an indoor gymnasium, an outdoor playing field, and a brand new
science/chemistry lab.
For more information, visit our sites at http://www.scischina.org and
http://www.isdfoundation.org.
Certified teachers with three or more years experience start at $34,000 (tax
free). The maximum entry level salary id $39,000.
We provide furnished housing within reasonable proximity of the campus. We
provide a monthly utilities allowance. Newly arriving overseas-hired teachers
receive a relocation allowance of US$1000 in August. Teachers receive an annual
air fare allowance of US$2,500, and health insurance is provided. Leave
buy-back. HIS assists with personal development opportunities and costs.
Chinese taxes are paid on your behalf so salaries are nett of tax. This
information is based on the 2008-09 school year. Annual increases are expected
for the 2009-10 school year.
HIS seeks qualified teachers with a spirit of adventure, a sense of humour
and wonder, a love of teaching children, and a willingness to work with
students outside of the classroom in sports and other activities that enhance
the life and spirit of the school. Candidates should be certified and have at
least two years' relevent teaching experience (exceptions are made for teaching
interns). We generally prefer candidates with universty credentials from, and
classroom experience in, North America, the U.K.., Australasia, and South
Africa. We prefer single teachers or teaching couples with no dependents,
although we will hire teachers with dependents in some cases.
Candidates should submit a resume with a recent photo, preferably as an
e-mail attachment, to Mr Jeff Stubbs, at [log in to unmask] The resume should
include references with their contact e-mail address and telephone numbers.
Candidates should also submit a letter of interest in which the candidate
clearly states he subjects or grade levels he or she would feel qualified to
handle, as well as extra-curricular activites, including sports, activites, or
exploratory or elective subjects, which she or he could assist with. (It is
helpful if candidates put their teaching subject or grade level area(s) in the
"subject" box of the e-mail template.) Since we will interview and hire
before the recruiting fairs begin, teachers with a Skype address should note
same in their personal details.
We will begin interviewing during the autumn semester, before the start of
the recruiting fairs, primarily via Skype and telephone interviews. HIS will be
presented at UNI and SEARCH-ASSOCIATES fairs.
Recruiting is ongoing, as long as positions are available. See our website
at www.scischina.org/Public/Employment for openings at HIS.
Hangzhou International school opened in 2001 and is about 2 hours south of
Shanghai. It is accredited by WASC and is authorized to offer the CollegeBoard
Advanced Placement Courses. Their emphasis is on a strong academic program
enhanced with specialist instruction in music, art, information technology,
foreign languages, and physical education.
