The SIGEVO Dissertation award will recognize excellent thesis research
by doctoral candidates in the field of evolutionary computing.
Dissertations will be reviewed for technical depth and significance of
the research contribution, potential impact on the field of
evolutionary computing, and quality of presentation. The SIGEVO Best
Dissertation award will be given annually to a maximum of 1 winner and
a maximum of 2 honorable mentions. The award presentation will take
place at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO)
awards ceremony in July.

The award will carry a monetary value, contributed by SIGEVO, of
$2,000 to be awarded to the winner and $1,000 to each of the honorable
mentions. The award winner and honorable mentions will each receive a
beautiful plaque.

Eligible dissertations must have been successfully defended and
deposited in the previous calendar year (January to December).

Nominations are welcomed from any country, but only English language
versions will be accepted.

Each nominated dissertation must be on any topic relevant to
evolutionary computing. The determination of whether a thesis is
within the scope of the award will be made by the SIGEVO Dissertation
Award Committee. A dissertation can be nominated for both the SIGEVO
Dissertation Award and the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Decision Deadline

The SIGEVO Dissertation Award Committee will make a recommendation to
the Chair of SIGEVO by May 1 of each year. Upon approval of the
recommendation by the executive board of ACM SIGEVO, the chair will
inform the winner and honorable mentions, if any.

Submission Procedure

All nomination materials must be submitted electronically to the
current chair of the SIGEVO Dissertation Award Committee (Manuel
López-Ibáñez <[log in to unmask]>, please ask for
confirmation) by the submission deadline, in English. PDF format is
preferred for all materials. Late submissions will not be considered.
The nomination must come from the dissertation advisor(s);
self-nomination is not allowed.

Nomination for the award must include:

1. An English language copy of thesis, in legible pdf format.

2. A statement from the advisor(s), limited to 2 pages, addressing why
the nominee’s dissertation should receive this award. This statement
should discuss the significance of the dissertation in depth.

3. Three (3) letters of support (in addition to the nomination letter)
limited to a maximum of 2 pages each. Supporting letters should be
included from other experts in the field who can provide additional
insights or evidence of the dissertation’s impact. If a letter writer
is supporting more than one nomination in a year, they may be asked to
rank those nominations. At least two letters must come from experts
outside the nominee’s university.

4. A list of publications by the nominee.

5. Suggested citation: This should be a concise statement (maximum of
50 words) describing the key technical contribution for which the
candidate merits this award. Final wording for awardees will be at the
discretion of the SIGEVO Dissertation Award Committee.

The university of Trieste has opened four new tenure track (RTDb)
positions, three in computer science (INF/01) and one in computer
engineering (ING-INF/05) in the broad areas of Artificial
Intelligence and Data Science and their applications (for example, but
not exclusively: machine learning, knowledge management, databases,
algorithms, logic-based AI, social computing, verification,
evolutionary computation, and applications in medicine, business
intelligence, social sciences, transportation, industry 4.0).

University of Trieste just started a broad set of research and
teaching activities in these area, and is looking for motivated
faculty to join and develop the field. Teaching-wise, the university
offers a bachelor in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (in
Italian), a bachelor in informatics and electronics (in Italian) a
master program in Data Science and Scientific Computing (DSSC in
English, having also a curriculum in AI), and a master in informatics
and electronics (partially in English, with a curriculum in AI and
Robotics) and from 2021 a phd program in Data Science and Artificial

DSSC Master and Phd are in collaboration with other research and
academic institutions of the thriving scientific area of Trieste and
of the FVG region. Trieste has been European capital of Science in
2020, and it has the highest density of researchers per thousand
inhabitants in the whole Europe. It is also an enjoyable city by the
sea, with cheap housing prices, offering a lot of cultural and sport
activities (from sailing to climbing and speleology). Trieste also
hosts one of the major harbours of Italy, the HQ of some big companies
(Generali, Fincantieri), several innovative start ups, and the first
scientific park of Italy (Area Science Park).
New faculty members are expected to teach in the above mentioned
programs, develop their own research labs and possibly collaborate
with the existing faculty in the university of Trieste and in the
Trieste / regional area.

The tenure track lasts 3 years. Candidates are expected to have
obtained the national habilitation in the corresponding scientific
sector (INF/01 or ING-INF/05) by then ( Once
tenured, candidates will become associate professors. Net salary is
~2100 euros/month for the first three years, raising to ~ 2400k
euros/month from the 4th year. Salary then increases every two years.
Candidates working abroad for more than 3 years are exempted from
taxes for a minimum of 6 years.

specialized forum of discussion and exchange of information for
researchers interested in exploring approaches that combine nature and

Optimisation is a multidisciplinary conference that brings together researchers

appearing in various industrial, economic, and scientific domains.

Successfully solved problems include, but are not limited to, multi-objective,
uncertain, dynamic and stochastic problems in the context of scheduling,
timetabling, network design, transportation and distribution, vehicle routing,
stringology, graphs, satisfiability, energy optimisation, cutting, packing,
planning and search-based software engineering.

The EvoCOP 2021 conference will be held somewhere on Earth, together
with EuroGP (the 24th European Conference on Genetic Programming), EvoMUSART
(the 10th European conference on evolutionary and biologically inspired music,
sound, art and design) and EvoApplications (the 24th European Conference on the
Applications of Evolutionary Computation), and a new special track on
Evolutionary Machine Learning in a joint event collectively known as

Optimization aims at providing a forum for scientific researchers and
engineers on recent advances in the field of parallel or distributed

multidimensional knapsack problems and cutting stock problems, large
scale linear programming problems, nonlinear optimization problems,

The GECCO 2022 Program Committee invites you to submit technical
papers describing your best work in genetic and evolutionary
computation. Full papers of at most 8 pages (excluding references)
should present original work that meets the high-quality standards of
GECCO 2022. Accepted full papers will appear in the ACM Digital
Library as part of the Main Proceedings of GECCO 2022.

For full papers, a separate abstract must be submitted first by
January 27, 2022. Full papers are due by the non-extendable deadline
of February 3, 2022.

Each paper submitted to GECCO 2022 will be rigorously evaluated in a
double-blind review process. Evaluation is done on a per-track basis,
ensuring high interest and high expertise of the reviewers. Review
criteria include the significance of the work, technical soundness,
novelty, clarity, writing quality, relevance and, if applicable,
sufficiency of information to permit replication. In addition to full
papers, poster-only papers of at most 4 pages (including references)
may also be submitted. Poster-only papers are expected to present
original work that has not yet reached the maturity and completeness
of research results that are published as full papers at GECCO. The
review of poster-only submissions follow the same double-blind process
mentioned above.

Accepted poster-only papers will appear in the ACM Digital Library as
part of the Companion Proceedings of GECCO 2022. Poster-only papers
are due by the non-extendable deadline of February 3, 2022, and no
abstract needs to be submitted first.

By submitting a paper, the author(s) agree that, if their paper is
accepted, they will:

* Submit a final, revised, camera-ready version to the publisher on or
before the camera-ready deadline (April 14, 2022)
* Register at least one author before May 2, 2022 to attend the conference
* Attend the conference (at least one author, either on-site or on-line)
* Present the accepted paper at the conference

Each accepted paper needs to have at least one author registered. A
registered author may present more than one paper at the conference
without having to pay additional registration fees.

and learning methods and their applications. The conference OLA'2022

OLA'2022 welcomes presentations that cover any aspects of optimization
and learning research such as big optimization and learning,
optimization for learning, learning for optimization, optimization and
learning under uncertainty, deep learning, new high-impact applications,
parameter tuning, 4th industrial revolution, computer vision,
hybridization issues, optimization-simulation, meta-modeling,
high-performance computing, parallel and distributed optimization and
learning, surrogate modeling, multi-objective optimization ...

Submission papers: We will accept two different types of submissions:
- S1: Extended abstracts of work-in-progress and position papers
of a maximum of 3 pages
- S2: Original research contributions of a maximum of 10 pages

*Scope of the Conference

The Metaheuristics International Conference (MIC) conference series
was established in 1995 and this is its 14th edition!

MIC is nowadays the main event focusing on the progress of the area of
Metaheuristics and their applications. As in all previous editions,
provides an opportunity to the international research community in
Metaheuristics to discuss recent research results, to develop new
ideas and collaborations, and to meet old and make new friends in a
friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

*Relevant Research Areas

MIC 2022 solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of
metaheuristics. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are:

   + Metaheuristic techniques such as tabu search, simulated
annealing, iterated local search, variable neighborhood search,
memory-based optimization, dynamic local search, evolutionary
algorithms, memetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, variable
neighborhood search, particle swarm optimization, scatter search, path
relinking, etc.

   + Techniques that enhance the usability and increase the potential
of metaheuristic algorithms such as reactive search mechanisms for
self-tuning, offline metaheuristic algorithm configuration techniques,
algorithm portfolios, parallelization of metaheuristic algorithms,

   + Empirical and theoretical research in metaheuristics including
large-scale experimental analyses, algorithm comparisons, new
experimental methodologies, engineering methodologies for
metaheuristic algorithms, search space analysis, theoretical insights
into properties of metaheuristic algorithms, etc.

   + High-impact applications of metaheuristics in fields such as
bioinformatics, electrical and mechanical engineering,
telecommunications, sustainability, business, scheduling and
timetabling. Particularly welcome are innovative applications of
metaheuristic algorithms that have a potential of pushing research

   + Contributions on the combination of metaheuristic techniques with
those from other areas, such as integer programming, constraint
programming, machine learning, etc.

   + Contributions on the use of metaheuristic techniques in machine
learning and deep learning for finetuning and neural architecture
search, etc.

   + Challenging applications areas such as continuous, mixed
discrete-continuous, multi-objective, stochastic, or dynamic problems.

Scope of the Conference
Swarm intelligence is the discipline that deals with the study of
self-organizing processes both in nature and in artificial systems. Researchers
in ethology and animal behavior have proposed a number of models to explain
interesting aspects of collective behaviors, such as movement coordination,
shape-formation, and decision making. Recently, algorithms and methods inspired
by these models have been proposed to solve difficult problems in many domains.
Among these, we particularly mention ant colony optimization (ACO) and particle
swarm optimization (PSO), focusing respectively on discrete and continuous
optimization problems. Another field of techniques derived from swarm
intelligence is swarm robotics with focus on designing collaborative
multi-robot systems that show high degrees of robustness and scalability. With
ANTS 2022 we want to give researchers in swarm intelligence the opportunity to
meet, to present their latest research, and to discuss current developments and
applications. The three-day conference will be held for the first time in
Malaga, Spain, on November 2-4, 2022.

Relevant Research Areas
ANTS 2022 solicits contributions dealing with any aspect of swarm intelligence.
Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are:
- behavioral models of social insects or other animal societies that can
stimulate new algorithmic approaches
- theoretical and empirical research in swarm intelligence
- application of swarm intelligence methods (e.g., ant colony optimization,
particle swarm optimization) to real-world problems
- theoretical and experimental research in swarm robotics systems
