Wellington, New Zealand.

Please consider to contribute to and/or forward to the appropriate
groups the following opportunity to present original research articles
in CEC 2019.

SCOPE

The focus of the UEOB 2019 is to highlight theoretical and empirical
research that investigates approaches needed to analyze stochastic
optimization algorithms and performance assessment with regard to
different criteria. The main goal is to bring the problem and
importance of understanding optimization algorithms closer to
researchers and to show them how and why this is important for future
development in the optimization community. This will help
researchers/users to transfer the gained knowledge from theory into the
real world, or to find the algorithm that is best suited to the
characteristics of a given real-world problem.

discussions after each talk led by a mentor panel of established
researchers. Students are encouraged to use this opportunity for
guidance on future research directions.

In addition, we provide opportunities to:
* present the work to the whole conference audience at the poster session,
* receive a best paper award, and,
* network and discuss ideas during and after the workshop.

This call is open to all papers mainly authored by students (Bachelor,
Master or PhD) and covering topics related to genetic and evolutionary
computation, for example related to any of the GECCO 2019 tracks.

*** IMPORTANT DATES ***

Submission Deadline: 3-Apr-19
Notification: 17-Apr-19
Camera-Ready: 24-Apr-19

*** DESCRIPTION ***

The Hot Off the Press (HOP) track offers authors of recent papers the
opportunity to present their work to the GECCO community, both by giving
a talk on one of the three main days of the conference and by having a
2-page abstract appear in the Proceedings Companion, in which the
workshop papers, late-breaking abstracts, and tutorials also appear. We
invite researchers to submit summaries of their own work recently
published in top-tier conferences and journals. Contributions are
selected based on their scientific quality and their relevance to the
GECCO community. Typical contributions include (but are not limited to)
evolutionary computation papers that have appeared at venues different
from GECCO, papers comparing different heuristics and optimization
methods that have appeared at a general heuristics or optimization
venue, papers describing applications of evolutionary methods that have
appeared at venues of this application domain, or papers describing
methods with relevance to the GECCO community that have appeared at a
venue centred around this method’s domain. In any case, it is the
authors’ responsibility to make clear why this work is relevant for the
GECCO community, and to present the results in a language accessible to
the GECCO community.

*** ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA ***

* The HOP paper must be of significant interest to the GECCO community.

* The HOP paper must have appeared in a well-respected journal
or conference proceeding. For journal publications, it suffices that the
paper is finally accepted and available on the publisher’s web page.

* The HOP paper must not have been published in its final form
earlier than 2018.

* The core content of the paper must not have been presented at a
GECCO conference before.

*** PUBLICATION ***

Submitters to the HOP track have the choice between only giving a talk
at the conference or giving both a talk and having their abstract appear
in the GECCO Proceedings Companion. The track is equally happy with both
formats. Acceptance/rejection of the submission will only be based on
the acceptance criteria described above, not on the submission type.

Subject: [FOGA XV] First CFP for ACM/SIGEVO Workshop on Foundations of
Genetic Algorithms

####################################
                  Important News
####################################

—As reflected by our program committee and the call for papers, FOGA
XV aims to be (more) inclusive with respect to the methodology
applied, i.e., we invite all works aiming to understand algorithms'
performance,
regardless of whether this is achieved through a rigorous mathematical
investigation or a carefully crafted empirical studies.

—Note that this year camera-ready papers will be collected BEFORE the
conference, to allow a faster dissemination of the results, i.e., we
do no longer support post-conference proceedings

—FOGA XV will be co-located with the seventh COnfiguration and
SElection of ALgorithms (COSEAL) Workshop
(https://secure-web.cisco.com/1VNpG07oCXyKGD-mjN5pTMm4LGc71izzfqSXw88ldMktgL943BUrx5268_An7QxoguMaBPHxBqHIxUtaNcpiDgNVihHqnaYh11fyZunn1grDT1NjvKFd041n-oU8yKFsqd4N6kdzwWlQ75-d-NmvLU-pNAIHa9KPf19PGMgAe7409xWqpz48CxgASlVakgrutgtvlOCcP7Fbc8iTf9MF9PJ0yAdJTVKLxSnMaQqXCEwiVVRmP9rFhZdWKT3wWXyYg2939DOGth8jmcBKuhVLFR80lTSlogE6prrrtaC2hDqjBPvyZ-ZgL3KeyQBpK55Ue0IFxqoeE7zo54sqXC4lg7B_FzOhZ9yR4bPPLe8KdzGQNjF1L7J4Oy2IHPUPIWwkHcQbkTpQvKMLIIPz45v1upkB8fvmTlN3ulhRHKTQD_Se9LSRxZLDZIh2kXidVcTwbgwhukZ7vmFmGEM_y5y7OPA/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.coseal.net%2Fcoseal-workshop-2019%2F%29, organized by Holger
Hoos and Marius Lindauer. COSEAL is a workshop series for discussing
the most recent advances in the automated configuration and selection
of algorithms. The workshop takes place just before FOGA, on August 26
and 27.

####################################
Call for Papers and Important Dates
####################################

The FOGA workshop series aims at advancing our understanding of the
working principles behind evolutionary algorithms and related
randomized search heuristics, such as local search algorithms,
differential evolution, ant colony optimization, particle swarm
optimization, artificial immune systems, simulated annealing, and
other Monte Carlo methods for search and optimization. Connections to
related areas, such as Bayesian optimization and direct search, are of
interest as well.

FOGA is the premier event to discuss advances on the theoretical
foundations of these algorithms, tools needed to analyze them, and
different aspects of comparing algorithms' performance. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to:

    Run time analysis
Mathematical tools suitable for the analysis of search heuristics
    Fitness landscapes and problem difficulty
(On- and offline) configuration and selection of algorithms,
heuristics, operators, and parameters
Stochastic and dynamic environments, noisy evaluations
    Constrained optimization
    Problem representation
    Complexity theory for search heuristics
    Multi-objective optimization
Benchmarking aspects, including performance measures, the
selection of meaningful benchmark problems, and statistical aspects
Connection between black-box optimization and machine learning

Submissions covering the entire spectrum of work, ranging from
rigorously derived mathematical results to carefully crafted empirical
studies, are invited.

Accepted papers will be published in proceedings by ACM Press.
Authors should submit their papers (15 page maximum) consistent with
the alternate ACM SIG style file by the submission deadline.
Submissions are made through EasyChair:

challenging single- and multi-objective optimization problems. The
competition is organized in the scope of the Genetic and Evolutionary
Computation Conference (GECCO'2019, https://secure-web.cisco.com/1uILw-0tyiJwg3PwAZVTJKSoTwqd6krTMd0KMiRMLMeUG58RBYQ2WX8OV1sjlzU9BVMdH0ABM4y-dsJ82TQ7D7wkxQGMTZe0VHw7MD18fKNk679ZbWXHf3rESTtmakAA2MU87Qn-qPPe1W9TFEbFagMJavDLp_WJ-FsaB59dR8AjA1QH2riDuFzVss0OEKcnuuBAgshKCh_bE0sbh_nNKM4LLeaD6jUmv9-aq5EcYDJR6C0fcdY4vvGvtujmQdD1ZxJwEll2xjpnLE6k6XMKY8iHdDDoI6mXZ2A3qB1DigalC-9x-wewqwYpRx8f7o1P2jTdcuiZxrW26fQabSVnPqkNGCxFqiXhQHUjysU1t26lsiXsn9hsN_7CMQM32GZOnpFA1XgHnvH7MxEtv-HSfncz2GDrY7xk21JgECnAmxvKbMiZ3U9ioXe5p4a1Jwc96KHa5Z8xiLa9K6mYmuWaL5w/https%3A%2F%2Fgecco-2019.sigevo.org%2F%29.

BBComp is the first competition platform in the continuous domain where
test problems are truly black boxes to participants. The only
information known to the optimizer and the participant is the dimension
of the problem, bounds on all variables, and a budget of black box queries.

The competition is also the first web/online optimization competition in
the evolutionary computation domain. It aims at attacking a growing
impact of over-fitting of optimization algorithms to a narrow set of
existing benchmark problems. The competition was run six times so far,
attracting more than 100 unique submissions, including some
state-of-the-art commercial solvers.

Material for participation including example source code in C/C++,
MATLAB, Python and Java is available at https://secure-web.cisco.com/1hGLq8VEVeULIWWhQnd4rkLJyhhdH7KSQNT87xVa6tIYVt8P7_jUhjRD0psfejcHQh-yR7dKzTgYerhIGRFIhH4CCIjmSf8EdgvpVW1QFJ4CXgOubBQurCXYNM5N-SOT77IxcfP8j9RzDc7-N8Iqv-00bTqVEOEsJInWCFE6ZNNhjtNhxjX1ySdkLUDUL8y1CCEd1nAmDGKuthEj1ZuS6RFMgKah9AnwOxbtGEGfTDVTvC7YpfgfKo09o_kXz1yAVJqoFEEfd1dJkm-UX3-xd5v_N4Li22uICslEsJ9viqTHvDQLhhKktD9RaigoypHZRafHtLJGHzUU4P2gYTkFxdpERaih4PNGR1ChVebEr-jnmpAKnOu747yK9l_DbdGd6HHE19y3WDR6zab9owFdSv8zqkahrhlMkj_8sQr4LokM6ycGqRBnnTABOHG-C9AOCdlOPPLnMbic6MHtJ0pXBdw/https%3A%2F%2Fbbcomp.ini.rub.de%2F . The
results of the competition will be announced during GECCO'2019.
Participants do not need to attend the conference or submit papers, they
can even choose to be anonymous to the other participants.
