SPEAKER: Dr. Andrey Gritsenko (Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, University of Wisconsin-Madison)
TITLE: "Interpretable Machine Learning"

Abstract: In the last decade, applications of machine learning have spread almost across all areas of human activity. However, one of the most powerful ML techniques, artificial neural networks, is still considered as a 'black box' by a large amount of researchers that try to use them. In this talk, Dr. Gritsenko will cover some of his previous work dedicated to increasing the interpretability of results produced by ANN, including obtaining probabilistic outputs for multiclass classification problems and enhancing visualization of high-dimensional data. He will then follow with the discussion of his the most recent project devoted to the zygosity classification of twin pairs and identification of the most heritable human brain regions.
