Subject: Post-doc RA position at University of Manchester, UK

Dear all,

Please see the link below for details of a 9-month post-doctoral RA
position* in Manchester on "*Constrained global optimization for
fragment-assembly approaches to proteins structure prediction*". This
is an interdisciplinary project jointly between Joshua Knowles
(Machine Learning and Optimization Group, Computer Science), Simon
Lovell (Molecular Systems Division, Faculty of Life Science) and Julia
Handl (Decision Sciences Group, Manchester Business School). All three
investigators have extensive experience in developing methods for
protein structure prediction and publishing these in top academic
journals. We also have access to the code of Rosetta at the University
of Washington in the US - the world's leading fragment assembly

About You:
We are specifically looking for someone with PhD-level knowledge and
experience in (meta-)heuristic optimization (constrained non-linear
global optimization). Previous experience in protein structure
prediction is desirable but is not an essential requirement.

For more details, see

Please feel free to distribute to your networks and apologies for any

* Please note, we will apply for additional funding to extend this post.

Best regards,

Sender: Risto Miikkulainen <[log in to unmask]>
Subject: Research/teaching postdoc in neuroevolution, UT Austin

A research/teaching postdoc position is available in the group of Risto
Miikkulainen at the University of Texas at Austin, starting Jan 1st,
2015. The focus is on constructing intelligent agents in virtual
environments through the evolution of neural networks. In addition to
research, the position involves teaching an established undergraduate
research projects class in this area. Please contact [log in to unmask]
for more details.

Subject: [LION 2015] Extended Deadline -- Call for papers, January
12-16 2015, Lille (France)

Learning and Intelligent OptimizatioN Conference
LION 9 , Lille, FRANCE, Jan. 12-16, 2015.

***EXTENDED DEADLINE: October 23th, 2014***

This meeting, which continues the successful series of LION events
(see LION 5 in Rome, LION 6 in Paris, LION 7 in Catania, and LION 8 in
Gainesville), is exploring the intersections and uncharted territories
between machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematical
programming and algorithms for hard optimization problems. The main
purpose of the event is to bring together experts from these areas to
discuss new ideas and methods, challenges and opportunities in various
application areas, general trends and specific developments.

LION will continue to be one of the most respected conferences for
researchers working on Learning and Optimization by ensuring a strict
selection of paper with an average selection rate lower than 40%.

Following the tradition of LION, the proceedings will be published
after the conference in the Series Lecture Notes in Computer Science
(LNCS) by Springer.
