Hello everyone:

Welcome back! As we resume classes this week, please mark your calendars for the following events:

1. FINAL WEEK for the exhibition "Black and White and Thread All Over" by Sonya Clark. The show is currently up in the Fine Art Gallery of the Art & Design Building, and is set to come down on Friday February 21st. Sponsored by African and African American Studies and the School of Art.

2. On February 25th, 2014, the Black Heritage Month keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole. She is the current director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African Art. The event will begin at 7:00PM, and be held in the Bistro, on the ground level of the Johnson Center. Sponsored by the Office of Diversity Inclusion and Multicultural Education.

3. Roderick Ferguson, professor of race and critical theory in the Department of American Studies at the University of Minnesota, will be the guest speaker for the Cultural Studies program at Mason. His talk is titled, "Socialism in Black Queer Time: The 1970s and the Erotic Potentials of Radical Politics," and will take place on Thursday, February 27th at 4:30PM in the Mason Hall room D005. Cosponsored by African and African American Studies, University Life, & Interdisciplinary Curriculum Collaborative.

4. The 2014 Sojourner Truth Lecture will be held on Tuesday March 4th at 1:30PM in the Meese Room of Mason Hall. Crystal Leigh Endsley, Ph.D. will be the speaker this year. Sponsored by African and African American Studies and Women and Gender Studies.

5. Film and Media Studies (FAMS) at Mason will hold its Visiting Filmmakers Series on March 19th at 7:30PM, and welcomes the film, Let the Fire Burn
(2013) and director Jason Osder. This event will take place in the Johnson Center Cinema. Sponsored by FAMS and African and African American Studies.
