Subject: PhD Studentships Available - Dynamic Adaptive Search Based
Software Engineering
DAASE is a four site project funded by the Engineering and Physical
Sciences Research Council involving University College London,
Birmingham, Stirling and York and with a growing list of industrial
partners.
The project seeks to use Search Based Software Engineering to develop
optimised software development processes, combining aspects of
software engineering activities into a single combined and optimising
process. The goal is to produce software that is dynamically adaptive;
not only able to respond to and fix problems that arise before
deployment and during operation, but that continually optimises,
re-configures and evolves to adapt to new operating conditions,
platforms and environmental challenges (as most broadly construed).
Ten studentships are available from October 2012 onwards.
Studentships will provide funding for tuition fees (home/EU rate), a
stipend of £13,590 per annum plus Research Training Support Grant of
£750 pa.

Subject: Evolving Objects framework: release 1.3.0
The new 1.3.0 version of the "Evolving Objects" framework is available.
EO is a template-based, C++ evolutionary computation library which
helps you to write your own stochastic optimization algorithms
insanely fast.
Learn more about EO on the official website:
http://eodev.sourceforge.net/
You will find the release 1.3.0 at the following address:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/eodev/files/eo/1.3.0/
There is two major new feature in this release, both are experimental but we
think they may be very interesting for a lot of users.
The first one is a parallelization module using MPI, which comes with
multi-start and evaluation parallelization, but can do much more if you master
it. More explanations are available in the doc:
http://eodev.sourceforge.net/eo/doc/html/namespaceeo_1_1mpi.html
The second one is a module for writing stochastic search algorithms that
manipulate probability distributions. It comes with a mew fast (but highly
experimental) implementation of CMA-ES.
