David W. Blight, professor of American history and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University, will speak at Manassas National Battlefield Park inside the Visitor Center Theater on Saturday, September 10 at 10 A.M in promotion of his new book, American Oracle: The Civil War in the Civil Rights Era, (Harvard University Press, 2011). Blight is also the author of A Slave No More: Two Men Who Escaped to Freedom, Including Their Narratives of Emancipation, (Harcourt, 2007) and Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory, (Harvard University Press, 2001). Blight is an award-winning historian. Among his many awards, Blight received the Bancroft Prize, the Frederick Douglass Prize, and the Abraham Lincoln Prize for his work on Race and Reunion: The Civil War in American Memory.
