Position Description: The Economic Research Service (ERS), United States Department of Agriculture, has two positions available for participants in the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU) National Internship Program. ERS economists conduct policy-relevant research on national and international issues including: poverty and federal assistance programs, food and consumer issues; food safety; farm structure, performance and finance; analysis of tax policies; climate, energy, and environmental policy; agricultural markets and policy; economic growth, agricultural development and food security; global agricultural policy modeling; spatial economics, and rural economies. Specifically, we seek HACU interns to provide research assistance to ERS agricultural economists. A strong background in agricultural economics, economics, or a related field at the undergraduate level or higher is preferred for this position, along with a working knowledge of statistics. The po
sition also requires skill in operating a personal computer and related software packages (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet browsers) and the ability to collect and assemble economic data from disparate sources and to perform literature searches of economics-related topics with limited supervision. Familiarity with statistical software such as SAS or Stata and proficiency in Spanish are also desired but not required for these positions. 

Benefits: $450 to $550 per week

Full or part-time, schedule flexible, preferred work dates January 15 through April 30
