The summer 2010 program is quickly approaching. For old and new
students alike, I wanted to give you some important information before
classes begin.

*For All Students*

1. *Orientation.* If you are attending all three sessions of the
summer program, you are required to attend the orientation on Sunday,
June 27, whether you are first, second or third year. Orientation is in
the Johnson Center's cinema on the first floor, beginning at 8:00 am and
ending at 12:00 pm. Lunch will be provided. For a map of the campus,
visit: http://info.gmu.edu/FxMap09letterupdate.pdf. The Johnson Center
is building #30 on the map. If you are attending only session two or
three, you should stop by the FAST TRAIN summer office in Aquia 356 and
357 the day before your first class begins to pick up the orientation
packet. If you live locally and want to attend the orientation even
though you will not be attending until session two or three, please feel
free to do so.

2. *Parking.* Parking is free in all outside lots on the weekends
(whether student or faculty). Please look at the above map for parking
lots. The parking decks will still charge. After the weekend, if you
are going to have a car on campus, you will have to buy a parking pass.
For information on buying a pass, you can find information on the
Parking Services website at: http://parking.gmu.edu/.

3. *Target Run.* There will be a Target run for those who need to pick
up supplies to stay in the dorms. In years past, this run was on Sunday
after orientation. Because of schedule changes, *the Target run will be
on Saturday, June 26, at 3:00 pm.* Meet at the George Mason statue,
which is near the Johnson Center, at 2:45 pm.

4. *Housing.* For those staying in student housing, you will be housed
in Liberty Square. However, you will check in at the building next
door, Potomac Heights. The number for the housing desk in Potomac
Heights is 703-993-9250 (this number is different from the main housing
office). The housing desk is located on the first floor in the middle
of the building (as you face the front of the building, you will go
through the second set of doors in the middle, not the first set of
doors in front or to the right). The exterior doors will be locked, so
you will need to knock on the door or window and the staff will let you
inside. The desk is open until 11:00 am Sunday through Thursday and
until 1:00 am on Friday and Saturday. If you arrive after the desk is
closed, you can call the on-call staff member at 571-308-4505.

5. *Advising Sessions.* There are mandatory advising sessions for
new/first summer students (see attached schedule and note below). If
you are second or third year, you have the option of signing up for an
advising session. A sign-up sheet will be available at the orientation
check-in. If you are not arriving until after orientation, please sign
up in the FAST TRAIN office when you pick up your orientation packet.

6. *Test Transportation.* Transportation will be provided to the paper
test sites for the VCLA, VRA and Praxis II exams. Please sign up for
transportation in the FAST TRAIN office if you plan to take those tests
this summer. The VCLA is taken by all elementary ed and ESL students
and can be taken at any time (it is similar to the Praxis I without the
math). The VRA and Praxis II are usually taken by elementary ed
students the second summer of study. Locations are as follows:
VCLA Computer test - Vienna (no transportation provided, CUE available)
VCLA Paper test- Northern Virginia Area (transportation provided July 10)
VRA paper test - Northern Virginia Area (transportation provided July 10)
Praxis II (test code 0014) - Arlington, VA (no transportation provided,
Metro available)

*For New/First Summer Students*

All new students are assigned an advising session with either Leslie or
Jennifer on Sunday afternoon. All first summer students are also
required to meet with an advisor and have been scheduled in the
afternoons after class during summer session I. Please see the attached
schedule for both Jennifer and Leslie to find your appointment time. If
you are a first semester or first summer student and do not see your
name on the schedule, email Leslie.

Thanks,
Jennifer
