Everyone,
On Tuesday February 10th, two of Mason's campuses will be graced by *a
historic and influential figure: **Dominique Dawes, 3-time Olympian and
one of the first African-American Olympic gymnast.*
Ms. Dawes will be the *keynote speaker *for this year's *Black Heritage
Month Celebration*. *On **Tuesday **February 10th, *she will* *visit the
*Prince William campus *and speak in *Verizon Auditorium at 12:30pm*.
This will be immediately followed by a *reception-style luncheon. *She
will make her way to the Fairfax campus and address the Fairfax campus
community at *6pm in Harris Theater. Both events are free and the event
in Harris will be open to the public. *
While she is most-notably remembered as a member of the *"Magnificent
Seven,”* which took home *the gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in
Atlanta, *Dominique Dawes has become much more than a gymnast. Outside
of running her own gymnastics clinic in Maryland, she served as*
**President of the Women's Sports Federation *from 2004-2006; has been
an Olympic Games correspondent for *NBC & Yahoo;* and was inducted in to
the *US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2008. *For more information on Ms.
Dawes, please click here. <http://odps.gmu.edu/african/bhm.php#Dawes>
*Flyers for both the Fairfax & Prince William Campus events are attached
below.* *Please feel free to pass this information along to any and all
colleagues, friends or community organizations & family members who may
be interested.*
