The Education department at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park would
like to announce that they will have internship positions available for
college students this summer.  Please distribute the attached flier to any
students that you feel would be a good candidate.  In addition to our
summer internship program, we will be offering part-time (Monday and
Tuesday) positions in our Step program this spring.

An education intern will be working on interpreting the many themes within
the park, which include:  Industrial history/arms manufacturing, John
Brown's 1859 Raid/1861-1865 Civil War military and civilian history,
African American history/Storer College/Niagara Movement, Transportation
development, the early American experience; the park's natural themes
include natural history, the river and its environment, the human and
nature interconnectedness, geology and natural beauty.

Excellent experience for anyone interested in education, public history
or environmental science!

*Primary Duties:*

    Research, develop and present interpretive programs.
    Serve audience of students K-12.
    Study assigned research materials.
    Be a part of experiential third-person living history.
    Develop curriculum-based material on Harpers Ferry history.

*Responsibilities*
    Development and presentation of on and off-site curriculum based
       education activities and tours.
    Development, fabrication and procurement of pre, on-site and post visit
       instructional materials.
    Assistance with on-site logistical arrangements.
    Assistance with planning and development of program curriculum
       offerings.
    Design and application of evaluation tools.
    Grant writing and reporting.
    Staffing of 19th century historical furnished or modern exhibits and
       environments.
    Assistance with special school events and activities.
    Maintenance of education materials and prop collection.
    Presenting informal historical and natural resource research and
       interpretation.
    Research and application of knowledge to all aspects of educational
       programming.
