All,
It is sad to lose Andy. He played a big role in getting our school up and running. He took advantage of his contacts through IEEE, IFAC and other professional associations to hire a large number of faculty those early years. Also, I recall an IEEE "Systems, Man and Cybernetics" Conference held in this area where Andy was the local chair. He lined up Session Chairs from Mason for a large number of the sessions, using the opportunity to promote our school.
We will miss him.
Jerry

Subject: Sad News - Andy Sage
Dear VSE colleagues:
I am very sad to notify you that Andy Sage, founding Dean of the School, passed away in his sleep this morning. I was notified of that by his son Phil.
I am awaiting to hear about the funeral arrangements. Condolences can be addressed to
LaVerne Sage
8011 Woodland Hills Lane
Fairfax Station, VA 22039
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Andrew P. Sage Scholarship in the Volgenau School.
Few people have had such extraordinary impact as Andy has had, as a pioneer and leader in systems engineering, as the founder of our School, as a prolific author and as an educator. He successfully crammed several lifetimes of achievements in the course of his career. And he did that with collegiality, generosity, and grace. His broad contributions continue to live within us, and will guide generations of systems engineers in years to come.
I have attached a brief bio of Andy. (I have hastily put it together so I apologize if it is incomplete)
Ariela
