Faculty,

It's time to kick off our annual process to replace obsolete faculty primary computers.

The campus program provides ONE computer per full-time faculty every five years for use for administrative and academic functions. You are eligible only if you have not received a computer since March 31, 2018, under either the obsolete or new faculty program. Please do not complete the survey if you have received a computer under any GMU or ETF obsolete or new faculty program since March 31, 2018.

As a result of the changes in work patterns during and after the pandemic, we are offering only laptops, either Windows or a MacBook Pro. The choices are:

*         Apple Laptop
* 14-Inch MacBook Pro Space Gray with Backlit Magic Keyboard and Touch ID
*         Apple M1 Pro with 8-core CPU / 14-core GPU / 16-core Neural Engine
*         16Gb unified memory
*         512 Gb SSD HD
* Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 port
*         Four year AppleCare+ included
*         Windows Laptop
*         Dell Latitude 5431 14" or comparable
* 12th Generation Intel vPro with Intel Core i7 (12 Core, 18MB Chase, 16 Threads, up to 4.80 GHz)
*         16GB DDR4 RAM
*         512 GB SSD HD
*         Five-year warranty included

Please note that MacBooks now have an Apple M1 chip which does not support Windows or Windows software, either natively or in a virtual machine. If your course or other applications use Windows software, please select the Dell Latitude. Also, Apple Silicon does not appear to be supported by the mainstream Linux distributions.

To simplify things, we have developed a survey form to use to provide the necessary information and the specific configurations available for each computer option.

Please complete the form by 10 PM Sunday, October 16, 2022 after which the survey will be closed and the results will be analyzed to see how many requests can be accommodated as there is a limited budget for the program.

We will notify you as soon as possible about the decision and provide an estimated delivery date. Please note that we have been experiencing very long delivery times on all computer orders.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the program.
