You will receive an email from the Registrar in the coming weeks with your registration time so please check your GMU email account regularly. Attached to this email please find a list of MPA applicable electives and their respective concentration areas. Please refer to this list when creating your spring schedule.

In this email you will find information about:

  *   POGO 511
  *   Concentrations/elective options
  *   Degree Requirements
  *   Schar Schedule of Courses
  *   Course syllabi
  *   Course Restrictions
  *   Academic Calendar/Important Dates
  *   Tuition Insurance Policy
  *   Waitlists

Additional details can be found below:

  * POGO 511: To enroll in POGO 511, students must first pass a screening exam. Information about this is at http://schar.gmu.edu/511.

  * Concentrations/elective options: Attached to this email is a list of elective course options and concentration area requirement courses broken out. Also, attached you will find two more lists that can help you with course options if you’re hoping to create your own Energy and Climate Policy or Education Policy emphasis areas.

  * Degree Requirements: The complete list of MPA degree requirements can be found here<https://mymasonportal.gmu.edu/bbcswebdav/orgs/AU_Schar_Web/current-students/Graduate-student-services/Public%20Administration%2C%20MPA/MPA-Fall_2020.pdf>. PUBP 741: US Financial Policy and Procedures can count in place of PUAD 662: National Budgeting course this spring and will satisfy your Budget/Finance Core requirement.
  * Schar Schedule of Courses: Students are encouraged to review the options under the BIOD, GOVT, ITRN, POGO, PUAD, and PUBP headings for other elective choices. Students should consult with an advisor with any questions about elective eligibility.
  * Course syllabi: Course syllabi will be posted on the Schar School syllabi page<http://schar.gmu.edu/current-students/course-syllabi-and-schedule/course-syllabi/> as they become available. If a syllabus is not yet posted, please review previous semesters' syllabi to get an idea of class requirements or contact the teaching faculty directly<https://schar.gmu.edu/about/faculty-directory> to inquire.
  * Course Restrictions: We have restricted registration on many security related elective courses to allow majors priority registration.  Restrictions for these courses will be lifted on 11/16. Please note that if you’re interested in any non-Schar courses, make sure you get pre-approval from your academic advisor before registering.
  * Academic Calendar/Important Dates: The complete academic calendar and billing dates can be found on the Registrar's website<http://registrar.gmu.edu/calendars/>.
  * Tuition Insurance: The Tuition Protection Insurance Plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events which force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason.  For more information, visit https://studentaccounts.gmu.edu/tuition-insurance/
  * Waitlists: Students will be sent e-mails (to their Mason e-mail accounts) when waitlist overrides are issued.  Students will not be able to waitlist for a course if the following apply:

1. They are already registered for another section of the same course.

2. They are already on a waitlist for another section of the same course.

For more information, please visit the Registrar's Waitlist Information<https://registrar.gmu.edu/topics/waitlists/> page.

Finally, to help answer any registration and/or academic advising questions you may have, I will have advising walk in hours on:

  * October 25 from 4:00-6:30pm in Van Metre Hall, Student Services Suite 560
  *   October 27 from 1:00-3:00pm in Aquia, Room 312

Should you have any questions, please let me know.
