Presenter Bio: Matthew N. Portis
A kid from Akron Ohio, Matthew N Portis Jr has always had a strong passion for the outdoors. It was in his native Akron Ohio where he embraced nature at a young age. Matthew tuned his passion for technology into a lifelong career and earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology and began working for Intel out of New Mexico and later became a System Engineer for Raytheon in 2003. It was in 2006 while working at his laptop at an indoor bookstore in Tucson Arizona when the store ran out of power outlet sockets for customers to power laptops, then Matthew had a vision of using solar energy to not just power homes, but to also power everyday devices with solar harvesting technology, anywhere outdoors. Being a technologist and visionary Matthew later moved on with his idea and founded SolGreen® in 2009 and led SolGreen® from start-up and conception through company growth with the first Solar power workstation tables installed at Bowie State University (BSU) in 2013 which lead to a growth today of over eighty (80) SolGreen® Evodia Solar Tables seated at over thirty (30) college campuses and corporate headquarters across the U.S. and Canada. Matthew continues his vision of building tomorrows green technology where he serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of SolGreen and focusing on key design requirements such as user safety, durability, and commercial acceptance. With his vision to lessen the worlds dependence on fossil fuels with Net Zero carbon output, Matthew continues to work with SolGreen® partners to develop, patent and deliver quality solar technologies that allow everyday consumers to safely harvest solar technology that power on-the-go devices.

Matthew holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management (MEM) from The George Washington University's, School of Engineering and Science; and holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology (BSEET) from DeVry University, Columbus.
Matthew started his career as a process engineer in 2000 at Intel Corp Las Cruces NM, and later became a DOD contractor for the federal government serving as a Sr Systems Test Engineer with Raytheon missile systems; testing and validating the accuracy of the defending, Patriot missile (PAC-3), and AAMRAM (F-18) Air-To-Air missile, additionally Matthew has worked as a technical planner and consultant for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department Of Justice (DOJ) and the US Air force and on the Mounted Soldier System for the US ARMY, most recently consulting as a Project Manager, Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the National Weather Service, supporting the Chief Engineer and Directors with Engineering Planning on NWS NOAA Weather Evolve System in Silver Springs MD. “I stand on the shoulders of Elijah McCoy and so many Black American innovators that have been on the forefront of technical innovation since we were brought to the Continent, there is no good sense why this Generation of Black Americans shouldn’t be prominent in developing the future of Clean Technology that the planet so desperately needs today.” -Matthew N Portis
