Dear PhD IT students:

In order to register for IT 998/999 for the Spring 2015 semester, if you
haven't already done so, you need to submit the attached progress report
form to my attention _after_ you obtain your dissertation committee
chair's approval. We will in turn email you the CRN within 48 hours of
receiving the form. I would make every effort to meet with your
dissertation advisor and return the form to my attention before the
university closes for winter break (closed from December 22-January 2).

Please note, I will not accept any incomplete forms (even if your chair
approves); you must include your progress in writing on the form. The
purpose of requiring you to complete the form is to encourage you to
make an apt. with your committee chair to discuss your progress (or lack
thereof) and to discuss any other concerns you may be experiencing. If
your dissertation advisor is willing to sign the form without discussing
your progress, as a student, I would be concerned. You want/need
constructive feedback along the way. Try to make every effort to
schedule a face-to-face meeting with him/her, particularly if you are
not making sufficient progress. It's your time and money!

If you are a student registering for IT 998 for the first time, please
review the attached procedures.

If you have any questions or would like to meet with me in person, I
would be more than happy to do so.

Remember, to avoid a late fee, your _initial_ registration must occur
before Tuesday, January 20th, which is the first day of classes for the
semester.

Best regards,
Lisa
