Dear colleague,

The Washington DC Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) asks your assistance in publicizing our annual undergraduate and graduate scholarship competition. We hope you will make the enclosed information available to your top students with an interest in transportation-related careers.

WTS is an international organization of transportation professionals committed to career and industry excellence. Through more than 50 chapters in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom – and with a membership of over 6,000 individuals – WTS provides seminars, newsletters, scholarships, conferences, and networking opportunities for working professionals. While WTS has both male and female members, one of its primary goals is to promote professional development opportunities for women pursuing transportation careers.

As an organization, WTS offers three levels of scholarships: those provided by chapters and those provided by the umbrella organization, WTS International. The WTS DC chapter offers graduate, undergraduate, and high school scholarships.

Recipients of the WTS DC scholarships will then be nominated for WTS International recognitions—the Helene M. Overly Memorial Graduate Scholarship, the Leadership Legacy Scholarship for Graduates, the Sharon D. Banks Memorial Scholarship, the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship for Undergraduates, Junior College and Trade School Scholarship, and the TransPortation YOU Scholarship.

Applicants wishing to be considered by the WTS DC Chapter must:
1. Be women
2. Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
3. Be enrolled in a college or university where they are pursuing a degree in transportation or in a transportation-related field, such as transportation planning or engineering, security planning, business management, finance or logistics with a focus on public policy
4. Plan to pursue a career in transportation or a transportation-related field
5. Attend school in the Washington, DC metropolitan area

The WTS DC Chapter will consider each scholarship candidate who meets all of the above criteria and whose complete application package is received by 5:00PM on Monday, October 15, 2018. We request that students do not apply to more than one WTS chapter.

You will find more information on the application process in the attached letter and application forms.

WTS appreciates your assistance in its effort to provide tangible support to women who are pursuing careers in transportation. Please encourage all eligible students to apply, and distribute this letter and the enclosed application form to those who may be interested. Any questions should be directed to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

Sincerely,

WTS - DC Chapter Scholarship Committee
