Subject: SWANA's 2017 Solid Waste Student Design Competition

My name is Nathan Mayer and I sit on the Solid Waste Association of North America's (SWANA) Young Professionals (YP) steering committee and organize the Solid Waste Student Design Competition. Last year was our 2nd annual competition and it was a great turnout with the University of Texas at Arlington taking first place. You can find more information at https://swana.org/Membership/MembershipInformation/YoungProfessionals/swdc

We are in the process of organizing the problem statement for WasteCon 2017, which will be held September 25-27, 2017 in Baltimore, MD, and will be co-located with the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress. The next project will be on the cost/benefit of recycling. The enrollment and project statement should be on our website by mid October 2016. Enrollment will be open through October 2016 and close on 11/11/16. We are rolling the project out much earlier this year to target team enrollment in the Fall semester and provide the student teams with the Spring and Summer semesters to complete the project.

Please let me know if you have a group of students interested in forming a design team and participating in the competition. Participating students will be provided free conference registrations and a 1 year SWANA membership. There will also be prize money awarded to the first, second, and third place teams.

Thank you,

Nathan P. Mayer, P.E.
