Subject: WSS Travel Award and Mentoring Program Announcements

Dear Dr. Davis,

The WSS is sending two announcements together to keep down the number of emails from us. Please pass each on to those that are interested. We hope both enhance the work of your program at the George Mason University.

WSS Student Travel Award

The Washington Statistical Society is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the WSS Student Travel Award to the 2018 Joint Statistical Meetings. The application deadline is December 31, application materials are attached. Please distribute this announcement to students in a degree program in the areas of statistics, survey methodology, or allied survey research disciplines. Similar to last year, applicants are encouraged to plan to present a paper or poster at JSM 2018.

WSS Mentoring Program

The Washington Statistical Society is starting its second pilot mentoring session. The WSS is seeking statisticians and students who would like to participate as mentors, mentees, or both. The application deadline is December 2. We hope this will help statisticians in our area make new professional connections and enhance their professional development. Graduate students may be particularly interested in participating as they begin the transition from school to professional positions.

Information and a signup sheet are available on the WSS website here: washstat.org/mentoring<http://washstat.org/mentoring>

Please pass this information along to your students or others who might benefit from a mentoring relationship.
