NEWS: Fall 2020 Virtual Academic Career Fairs - Focus on Finding a Position During the Pandemic

Two Career Fairs - Tons of Advice and Insight!

Distinguished panelists were asked to share not just their advice for how to approach applying for an academic position, but how this process has changed under current pandemic circumstances and their insights for those on the job market as a result. The good news is that all of the departments represented currently have open positions that they are trying to fill!
Furthermore, along with their faculty, each of these departments have worked to articulate new guidelines for how to handle the hiring process in a virtual setting. As noted during these sessions, COVID-19 has had more effects on candidates than the evaluators. For this reason alone, you will want to review these sessions!

Upcoming Event: NISS-Merck Meet-up on SARS-COV2 Vaccine Development Potential in Vaccine Development
With the COVID pandemic having such a profound effect, everyone is hoping for a vaccine soon. At our last meet-up we examined how vaccines are developed with some emphasis on the current pandemic (see News story “NISS/Merck Meetup Reviews the Challenges and Potential in Vaccine Development<https://niss.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3140364b3158a2b6dfdaa8cbe&id=a7cba55a38&e=8eef76b406>”).

In this meet-up we will dig a little deeper into study design for vaccines to SARS-COV-2 considering general efficacy trial design and some thoughts for measuring response. We will also examine some of the largest current studies to look at how some of these considerations play out in practice.
