Subject: WSS Student Travel Award 2022 ANNOUNCEMENT
2022 WSS Student Travel Award Application
The Washington Statistical Society (WSS) is offering a Student Travel Award for a local area student in a degree program in the areas of statistics, data science, survey methodology, or related survey research disciplines. Support is offered for a student to attend a minimum of one American Statistical Society meeting or conference between July 1, 2022 and June 30th, 2023. A full list of eligible events may be found on ASA’s website<https://www.amstat.org/asa/meetings/home.aspx?hkey=4b891a2d-6f7d-4cb1-8f97-6ef6669784e0>.
Applications must contain a letter of support either by a current member of the WSS or a faculty advisor, a copy of their transcripts, an essay, and a completed application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to plan to present a paper or poster at one or more eligible events. Applications for the WSS student travel award are due no later than January 9, 2022.
One award will be granted to a student attending a school local to the DC, MD or VA area. Applications will be judged based on strength of academic performance, strength of statistical projects, internships and/or assistantships, the strength of the application letter, strength of recommendation(s), non-research activities such as receiving awards, teaching, mentoring, advising, collaborating, and service, and plans to present at an ASA conference. The award includes $800 plus early-bird student conference registration to one ASA meeting or conference, and a one-year student membership to the WSS.
The winner is required to attend meeting or conference sessions at the event of their choice. In addition, the winner is expected to attend the WSS Annual Dinner in the spring of 2022 to be recognized by the WSS. The winner is also expected to prepare an essay on his/her experience at the conference or meeting to be published in the WSS Fall Newsletter.
